Poundland is surprisingly good for picking up the odd fantasy book bargain. I know it’s not the first place you’d usually think of for cheap books but I have found quite a few decent fantasy books there, either in hardback or in large paperback format. The latest one I’ve found, which admittedly was not a fantasy book, was a small hardback of Joan Aitken’s Mansfield Revisited, a sequel to Mansfield Park. As I’m interested in sequels to classics, I couldn’t resist it. Pity it wasn’t Lady Catherine’s Necklace, Joan’s sequel to Pride and Prejudice but you can’t have everything. Fantasy related books or fantasy or alternative history novels I’ve picked up in Poundland include: Slayer Slang: Buffy the Vampire Slayer Lexicon by Michael Adams, The Tough Guide to Fantasyland by Diana Wynne Jones, Dominion by C J Sansom, an alternate history novel where Hitler won World War II, Ilario, The Lion’s Eye by Mary Gentle, One of Our Thursdays is Missing by Jasper Fforde etc. etc.
