Poundland and bargain fantasy books

Poundland is surprisingly good for picking up the odd fantasy book bargain. I know it’s not the first place you’d usually think of for cheap  books but I have found quite a few decent fantasy books there, either in hardback or in large paperback format. The latest one I’ve found, which admittedly was not a fantasy book, was a small hardback of Joan Aitken’s Mansfield Revisited, a sequel to Mansfield Park. As I’m interested in sequels to classics, I couldn’t…

It’s 21 November, so we’re halfway through Nanowrimo 2016. This is my second time of doing Nanowrimo and it’s a different experience from the first time, mainly, because I haven’t started from scratch this time. I wanted to use Nanowrimo to finish off a novel I started some time ago and got to about 40,000 words. In some ways, it has been good, knowing I’ve already got 40,000 words I can use towards the word count. It takes the pressure…

The Interview

The Interview is a short story by yours truly that will shortly (e.g. as soon as Amazon process it) be available as a Kindle book. I originally wrote this story for Volume 2 of Off The KUF – short stories written by authors from the Kindle Users Forum. I have decided to give it a bit of a polish and have it available as a stand alone. Therefore, the version in Off The KUF is not the same as this…

Print version of The Little Book of Quirky Christmas Stories

I am currently working on producing a print version of The Little Book of Quirky Christmas Stories. I hope to have it available on Amazon by Christmas 2016. I’m currently waiting for a proof copy to check so fingers crossed everything goes to plan.

Self publishing a print book

I’ve recently had the ‘pleasure’ of formatting print versions of The Little Book of Quirky Christmas Stories through Createspace, and the first draft of my fantasy/murder mystery novel Murder and Mittens, through Lulu. If I thought that formatting ebooks was fiddly and time-consuming – print books are much worse! Even though I had  templates supplied from both Lulu and Createspace, it has taken much longer than I thought to get them to an acceptable standard. The bottom line is once again,…

First Day of National Novel Writing Month

This is the first day of nanowrimo (or National Novel Writing Month). No prizes for guessing what month this occurs in. I have got off to a flying start by writing 2,535 words. The target per day is 1.667. I have also been very brave and put the story on the Smashwords website – www.smashwords.com since they kindly give Nanowrimo authors the chance to do this. So if you fancy reading the first chapter of my novel (or as far…

Kindle Paper White ?>

Kindle Paper White

I have a Kindle Paper White ebook reader. It’s one of my newer acquisitions and I’ve rapidly become very fond of it. It is smaller and lighter than the Kindle Keyboard but not as light or as convenient a size to shove in a handbag as my Sony PRS350. The thing I really love about it is the ability to read in the dark without it hurting your eyes. Slightly ironic in that I own it now and am not…
